Hole in the Wall…

It was 3.00 PM on a rainy day, my hike to get to the start of the tide pools and hole in the wall is on the long-ish side happened on May 2013. My travel advisory in Port Angles advised me that 3.0o PM is the low tide. I have to walk along this rough beach with not the greatest of footing (loose sand and rocks all the way). The evening low tide is definitely the time to be there as the multi-colored starfish in the tide pools and on the sea stacks put on quite the show. All the folks walking with me stopped after a mile as the tide got the shores…

The weather was far from ideal with strong winds but in between these unpleasant weather patterns and my biggest concern was the crossing of Ellen Creek about half way to Hole-in-the-Wall. When I reached Ellen Creek, I am the lone guy with fear and not sure what would be the best way to cross. The water was only ankle deep though splashed up to my knees as I walked. The water was swift and as I looked down and saw 5-inch diameter rocks rolling past me and the rushing water making me dizzy, I froze and clung to my tripod used as a walking pole. Then I realized looking down was a bad idea so I changed my focus to the other side where I was headed and soon I too was standing safely on dry sand.

With a 5 kG gear on my back and with a light corbon fibre tripod in my hand, I was stunned to see the 2 rocks near the hole in the wall. As the pacific feared me with the high tide, I set my 16 mm in a tripod and clicked this shot. 16mm –  f 2.8 / ISO 200/ Tv 1/250.

Hole in the wall …just few meters away…Walking again for more memories along the west coast 4 miles north of Rialto..
